NJ/NY Metro-area based singer/songwriter Carol Crittenden’s music has a mix of sweet lilting vocals and folk-inspired melodic pop sensibilities.
As the daughter of esteemed opera director/teacher, Richard Crittenden, Carol’s love of music began at an early age. She could be heard belting out Annie songs and putting on variety shows for family & neighbors in her backyard in suburban Northern New Jersey; these are some of her earliest childhood memories.
In addition to her original music projects, Carol has sung with various groups, and tours as the lead singer of Four Celtic Voices, whose CD debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Music Chart, in the Top Ten on multiple Heatseeker charts, and in the Top 40 on the Independent chart (May 2009). She sings a wide variety of styles, from classical to folk to musical theatre and she can also be heard singing on national commercials and in the shower. An actress as well, she has toured in productions of Dracula and Hamlet with the New Vic Theatre of London and has been seen on stage with various NYC and LA theatre companies.
Debut album, En Route: Produced & Mixed by Mike Datz in LA (who has worked with Blue Man Group, Tracy Bonham), Eric Mauriello in NYC (EMB Productions, who has worked with Little Anthony And The Imperials, Fischel’s Beast), Dom Barone in NYC (track 7, Omega Sound, who has worked with Songs of Love, Matt Beisner), Mastered by Evan Frankfort in LA (Would Work Sound, who has worked with Liz Phair, Pete Yorn).
Her newest song, RISE is a song of hope and coming together at a pivotal time when basic social justice and decency seem to be in peril. RISE has been featured at several protests, marches, fundraisers, festivals and special events. She is grateful that it has been well received by the folk radio DJ community who have been sharing the song with their audiences throughout the country and beyond.
Carol was honored to have been chosen by Joltin Joe Pszonek of Radio Nowhere (folkmusicnotebook.com) and Wanda Fischer of WAMC Northeast Public Radio to perform at the highly-regarded NERFA (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance) Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase in 2019.
